Kearney. Bounded by Lake Michigan to its east and residential, industrial, and agrarian lands to its north, west, and south, Chicago is an international hub for finance, commerce, industry, technology, communications, and transportation. Today, Chicago is one of the world’s greenest and most livable cities, thanks to strong partnerships between government, residents, and businesses – we’re pioneering some of the greatest innovations in sustainability today from reducing the “urban heat island effect” to offering an extensive low-cost energy-efficient public transit system to transforming our streets to make it the most bike friendly city in the nation. The past 15 years have also seen tremendous growth in our understanding of climate change and the important role that cities can play in addressing it. This worldwide threat to our planet demands an encompassing plan from every city, state, and nation and action from every resident and business to reduce emissions of heat trapping gases and ensure a good quality of life for future generations. Building on a legacy of energy efficiency and public transit leadership, the City of Chicago strives to continue developing new approaches to ensure that sustainable transportation and energy options are available to all residents and businesses. Our efforts hold enormous potential to further address economic challenges and promote growing opportunities. | 07/16/2021 01:47:15 | |||
