341616Cities 2020202031112Kaohsiung City GovernmentTaiwan, Greater ChinaEast AsiaFood12.3Does your city have any policies relating to food consumption within your city? If so, please describe the expected outcome of the policy.2Please describe the expected outcome of the policy1Please complete1) Establish a sound agricultural production system to promote the local organic agriculture and low-carbon diets. Prises are implemented to encourage customers to purchase local agricultural products. The Agriculture Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government holds conferences every year to counsel farmers on identifying advantages of local foods. The Bureau also created a brand identity system to promote local agriculture goods. Furthermore, the City has certified over 45 eco-friendly restaurants since 2011 to demonstrate the results.2) Promote green and friendly restaurants. In recent years, the issue of global warming has been receiving public attention and discussion. Although the impact of agriculture on our living environment cannot be quantified, it is still no doubts that it brings various benefits to our city, environmentally and socially. In response to the multiple goals of green environmental protection, energy saving and carbon reduction, it is necessary to reduce the food mileage, and to promote local agriculture based on the concept of “eating locally and seasonally”. A map of the local food ingredients can be downloaded for free by the individuals, schools and merchants.3) Encourage students to eat vegetarian food to reduce carbon emissions. Since school students are one of the main consumer groups in the city, the change of their behaviors can have large impacts. In line with the local principles, the City encourages schools to increase the rate of vegetables in their lunch catering, and manage to increase the frequency gradually. The City also conducts training programs for catering-related staffs, teachers and students to enhance the recognition on the benefits of nutrition balance and CO2 reductions from local ingredients.07/16/2021 01:47:15
