Please also select the most relevant assets or services that are affected by the climate hazard and provide a description of the impact.12Please describe the impacts experienced so far, and how you expect the hazard to impact in the future1Basalt, Colorado, a town roughly 17 miles north of Aspen experienced a severe forest fire on the mountain above the town in July of 2017. While the fire was human-caused, the drought-ridden forest amplified the extent and severity of the fire. As a result of this fire, Aspen experienced prolonged poor air quality and the near destruction of critical power and communication lines. No lives were lost in the fire, but multiple single-family homes were destroyed. Furthermore, Aspen and Basalt's communities are deeply intertwined, so the fire caused immense emotional distress to both communities. In the future, the hazard of forest fires is a concern for Aspen, especially in drought years where the forests are more prone to catching fire and the rapid spread of fire. A forest fire in the immediate Aspen area would create poor air quality, affect energy and communication infrastructure, reduce biodiversity in the forests in the short term, reduce tourism in the Aspen area, increase the need for public firefighting operations, and increase the need for emergency medical services. All of these impacts combined could damage Aspen's environmental and public health while destabilizing the local economy and infrastructure.07/16/2021 01:47:15

The CDP defines 21 main strategies to achieve adaptation or resilience goals. In summary, these strategies pertain to improving disaster and risk reduction management, enhancing water and food security, and addressing disaster and climate risks. Each strategy is also supported by a set of priority 'policy interventions' which could be in the form of (i) projects or programs, (ii) services, or (iii) legislations. Since the list of 21 strategies is quite long, we only outline ten key adaptation strategies below.Strategy 1 (goal): Improve the city’s legal and institutional arrangement on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management or DRRM.Strategy 2 (goal): Improve the city’s Emergency Management System.Strategy 3 (goal): Develop and sustain the city’s Geographic Information System (GIS) for DRRM.Strategy 4 (goal): Mainstream DRRM in Land Use Planning and Construction Codes and Standards.Strategy 11 (goal): Enhance Citizen Adaptive capacity Against Adverse Impacts of Climate Change.Strategy 12 (goal): Reduce Risks of Men and Women and other Vulnerable Groups (children, elderly and persons with disability, etc) from Climate Impacts and Disasters.Strategy 13 (goal): Increase Local and Community Capacities for Climate Change Adaptation-DRRM.Strategy 14 (goal): Reduced Population Congestion and Exposure to Climate Change-Related Diseases Spread and Other Risks.Strategy 15 (goal): Promote development of Sustainable Green Barangays and Prevent Creation of Urban Heat Islands.Strategy 21 (goal): Enhance knowledge and capacity of women and men to address climate change impacts. In compliance with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act (Republic Act 10121) and the national Climate Change Act (Republic Act 9729), Quezon City has mainstreamed climate change and disaster risk reduction concerns into its Comprehensive Development Plan, Comprehensive Land Use Plan, and all subsequent detailed plans and programs. Likewise, the Quezon City Government has also developed their Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) 2017- 2027 and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan (DRRMP) 2014-2020, as mandated by the Climate Change Act and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, respectively.07/16/2021 01:47:15

Description

This data is collected through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System. When using this data, please cite both organisations using the following wording: ‘This data was collected in partnership by CDP and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability’.
This dataset contains the full responses of publicly disclosing cities in 2020. To view the complete cities 2020 questionnaire guidance, including all questions asked in 2020, visit https://www.cdp.net/en/guidance/guidance-for-cities. Please contact cities@cdp.net if you have any questions.
When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and 5 American regional councils, which are: Chicago Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; Denver Regional Council of Governments; Metropolitan Council, Twin Cities; Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and Mid-America Regional Council.
