Turin is crossed four rivers (Po, Dora Riparia, Stura and Sangone) and has a environmental heritage that few cities in the world can boast. The resident population in the city of Turin, in the early 90 approximately 962,000 inhabitants, has fallen over the following years, amounting in 2018 to a value of 879,004 inhabitants increasing the population of the metropolitan area municipalities. Turin is a large industrial area with problems of re-conversion. Always identified as the capital of the automotive industry, the last two decades Turin was the protagonist of important transformation process, from the economic, urban and cultural side. Due to the necessary restructuring of industrial activities, new development strategies, new models and new activities are and will require for the socio-economic dynamics at the regional scale. After a period of industrial decline, it started a process of deep change:- urban transformation and regeneration, new infrastructures- transition from one company town to a pole of innovation, design, information technology, high education, culture, quality of life. The decentralization of production in other parts of the country created massive urban spaces characterized by progressive degradation that has affected, in particular, the areas located along the shaft train that runs through the city from north to south, where from the beginning of the twentieth century were located the major industrial plants, gradually incorporated urban-residential expansion.
