Unfortunately, given the microscopic nature of most of the particles that are emitted by road transport, the impact can be and has been overlooked for many years. At the heart of all our plans are making the city greener – improving air quality and making healthy active choices such as cycling and walking a first choice for everyone. Our plans will reduce traffic in the city centre to make it a safer and better place for residents, visitors and shoppers. We’re improving the public transport network to give buses priority at key junctions and to make public transport more reliable. We’re upgrading key junctions across the city to smooth traffic flow to reduce congestion and improve air quality. We’re investing in new technology to make to make our network more efficient and smarter.Policy CS13 supports the delivery of an integrated sustainable transport network promoting sustainable travel choices enhancing pedestrian and cycle routes and minimising car trips and providing sustainable travel plans. It also contains policies which seek to reduce unnecessary travel through, within and around the urban core. In addition, Urban Core policies identify pedestrian primary and secondary pedestrian routes (UC5) as a focus for improvement, cycling improvements (UC6), public transport infrastructure enhancements including a bus loop (UC7), focusing general traffic on the Urban Core Distributor Route (UC9) and minimising car parking for development and siting car parks close to the Urban Core Distributor Route (UC10). Policy DM10 (Pedestrian and Cycle Movement) requires developments to provide safe, convenient, attractive and continuous pedestrian and cycle links to key local facilities and services and demonstrate that new developments are within acceptable walking and cycling distance of key local facilities and services.Policy DM11 (Public Transportation) requires major developments to facilitate the use of public transport and designates park and ride facilities. | 07/16/2021 01:47:15 | |||
