153560Cities 2020202031146Addis Ababa City AdministrationEthiopiaAfricaIntroduction0.1Please give a general description and introduction to your city including your city’s reporting boundary in the table below.2Description of city1Please completeAddis Ababa is located in the central highlands of Ethiopia between 8048' and 906' North latitudes and 38038' and 38054' East longitudes, at the western margin of the Great East African Rift valley. The land area is 540 km2. Addis Ababa is surrounded by Oromiya Regional State & locally Sululta Woreda (local admin.) borders in the north, Wolmera and Alemgena Woredas in the West, Akaki Woreda in the South and Bereh-Aleltu Woreda in the East. Administratively, Addis Ababa City is divided into 10 sub-cities and 116 local administrations called Woredas. Addis Ababa is Ethiopia’s capital city and the business, administrative, cultural and recreational hub of the country as well as the political capital of Africa. The city has a varied topography. The northern part of the city is part of the Entoto Mountains which stretches in the east-west direction. Steep slopes with high mountains and flat-topped plateaus are characteristics of this part. Elevation and slope generally reduce from north to south. The southern part is gentle to flat. A number of rivers which feed the Awash river are located within the city contributing to the topographic features of the city. Addis Ababa is endowed with three major rivers which are starting from north, northwest and north-eastern part of Addis Ababa and flowing towards the south and drain to the Awash River. Taking the temperature data from Addis Ababa Observatory, segmenting into two period’s average, and computing the rate and magnitude of change in temperature within the last 60 years shows that both maximum and minimum temperature are increasing. Compared to the first 30 years (1953-1983) with an average maximum temperature of 22.48oC for the second 30 years (1984-2013) the average maximum temperature has increased to 23.42oC exceeding the first 30 years by 0.93oC. The average annual rainfall for Addis Ababa observatory station from 1953-1982 is 1156mm while the average mean value of 1984-2013 is 1213mm.07/16/2021 01:47:15

Village Staff from the Departments of Public Works, Recreation and Parks, Police, Fire, and Economic Development and Planning examined how the Village’s infrastructure, resources, facilities, and residents are likely to be impacted by climate change. The assessment included a specific focus on the needs of the village's populations of concern - lower income residents, people of color, and older residents - and how they are likely to be affected by the effects of climate change on village systems. The following areas were included in the assessment: critical facilities and infrastructure flooding readiness, built environment and infrastructure resilience, operations and maintenance, water resources, ecosystems and habitats, tourism and recreation, business plans and equipment, and community plans. The assessment resulted in the designation of a low, medium, or high readiness rating for each category.07/16/2021 01:47:15
