Hail and drought result in decreasing crop and change in growth cycle.Extreme drought periods can cause a lower level of groundwater recharge, increased evaporation and low water flow, which leads to a decrease of water resources. Droughts can cause limitations in the availability of drinking water. The water level in the rivers will be reaches the minimum. Smaller streams will dry up. Such conditions favor the spread of algae and bacteria, which can lead to a reduction in water quality.Due to the prolonged drought periods and heat waves year round, the increase in the level of smog is possible as well as a lower air quality.Drought periods can lead to increased damage and dying of trees. Also, changes in the growth cycle are possible as well as the reduction in the number of species, loss of species susceptible to drought. The risk of forest fires is also increased. Damage to biodiversity is possible, especially a drying of vegetation that is less resistant to high temperatures and has a greater need for water.07/16/2021 01:47:15

168832Cities 2020202035864Ekurhuleni Metropolitan MunicipalitySouth AfricaAfricaIntroduction0.1Please give a general description and introduction to your city including your city’s reporting boundary in the table below.2Description of city1Please completeThe City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) was formed in 2000 from the joining of several local municipalities of the former East Rand Region. It includes the geographical areas of Germiston in the west, to Springs and Nigel in the East and covers a total surface area 1923 km2 (EMM SOER, 2004). The industrial nature of Ekurhuleni is one of its most formidable or infamous aspect, including the OR Tambo International Airport. The estimated population of the Municipality is about 3.4 million people (although figures range from between 3.2 million and 3.6 million, (CES, 2011, with three quarters who are Black Africans. The municipal population makes up about one third (28%) of Gauteng’s population, with a population density of approximately 1 400 people per square kilometre (EMM, 2010). Population densities are high especially in the former “township” and informal residential areas. Approximately 22% of the population resides in informal and inadequate housing. Despite having a large percentage of the population of working age, the rate of unemployment is high, approximately 40% (EMM SOER, 2004). The municipality, being a conglomeration of nine previously separate municipalities, has no identifiable core and also has an interesting equity profile; where 'low development densities with historically disadvantaged communities [are] situated on the urban periphery’ (about 24% of the population live in poverty and the current estimated unemployment rate is 35%) (EMM, 2010, 9). There is currently (at the time of preparation of the 4th review) a great housing backlog with an estimated 135 000 shacks in informal settlements and 36 000 backyard shacks.07/16/2021 01:47:15
168833Cities 2020202054109City of BloomingtonUnited States of AmericaNorth AmericaOpportunitiesOpportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity3Composting: Reducing the amount of solid waste sent to the landfill helps reduce GHG emissions from both transport of waste and decomposition of waste at the landfill. The City restructured its waste collection and recycling system in 2017 to make it easier for residents to recycle and divert more waste from the landfill. Green Camino, a local composting service, is also working to enhance the amount of organic resources composted in the community. There is an opportunity here to expand services throughout the community and within local government operations, which are currently being discussed. (https://greencaminocompost.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/2018-Benefit-Report.pdf) Overall, this helps divert waste from landfills, and creates nutrient-rich compost that is used by local farmers. Additionally, the green waste produced by residences and from city landscaping is composted locally. Hoosier to Hoosier Sale: The H2H Sale is an annual reuse program that diverts reusable items created during the transitional movement of students and prevents additional resource consumption by selling collected items back to students and community members. H2H brings together hundreds of volunteers, raises money for local nonprofits, and provides affordable goods for our community. IU Sustain's efforts, in partnership with the City of Bloomington Sustainability, Cutters Soccer Club, and The Warehouse have saved more than 432 tons of waste from Bloomington landfills since 2009. This effort aims to address the Bloomington Sustainability Action Plan’s goal to divert 65% of waste from landfill by 2023. Going forward, SustainIU will be searching for additional diversion opportunities for large item pickups from the City, as well as enhancing communication and outreach to diverse networks throughout the community. The program has also conducted a SWOT analysis to determine future areas of improvement. Research on Wastewater Plant Expansion - Anaerobic Digester: Bloomington has identified a potential waste to energy improvement at one of the city’s wastewater treatment plants. https://www.facebook.com/cityofbloomington/videos/776148106076547/07/16/2021 01:47:15
