Possui limites geográficos com os municípios: Sabinópolis, São João Evangelista, Peçanha, Virginópolis, Açucena, Braúnas, Dores de Guanhães e Senhora do Porto. Dispõe de uma extensão territorial de 1.075,124 km² e possui 4 distritos (Sapucaia, Correntinho, Taquaral e Farias).O município possui duas áreas de preservação ambiental sendo uma Área de Proteção Ambiental "APA Pedra da Gafurina" e o "Parque Estadual Serra Estadual Serra do Candonga", parque estadual que abriga cerca de 20 nascentes e cachoeiras. Com relação à vegetação presente, o bioma dominante na região do município de Guanhães é o de mata Atlântica, representada principalmente pela Floresta Estacional Semidecidual em função dos fatores climáticos. A fauna presente no município é composta por peixes, répteis, anfíbios, aves e mamíferos de pequeno porte, como macacos, quatis, pacas, capivaras, tatus, caititus, entre outros, além de aves como jacus, sabiás, trinca-ferros, curiós, seriemas, tucanos, bem-te-vis. São incluídos, também, na fauna os invertebrados.O clima de Guanhães é classificado como tropical de altitude do tipo Cwa, Cwb (Koppen-Geiger) devido a sua altitude média de 778 metros acima do nível do mar e Aw (Koppen-Geiger) em sua porção ao sul do limite municipal, o período de verão registra chuvas e temperaturas elevadas, enquanto o inverno é seco com temperaturas mais baixas. A temperatura é amena durante o ano, variando em média de 15 °C a 30 °C sendo a média anual de 22,2 °C. A precipitação anual média é de 1212 mm de acordo com as normais climatológicas.O município possui população estimada em 2019 de 34.319 habitantes de acordo com o IBGE. É considerado pólo regional com um público flutuante de aproximadamente 300 mil pessoas por mês, atendendo diariamente a mais de 30 municípios da região por meio da prestação forte de serviços, comércio, educação e saúde. Apresenta significativa produção agropecuária (cultivo de milho, feijão, leite e derivados). Ademais se destaca como fornecedor de matéria-prima para a indústria de celulose.O distrito sede, tem tido nos últimos anos franca e rápida expansão territorial da mancha urbana devido à abertura de novas frentes imobiliárias, impulsionando a dinâmica econômica e o consequente aumento populacional. Tal fato também de gerado algumas situações-problemas com relação a infraestrutura da cidade que não tem acompanhado com a mesma velocidade o crescimento, na qual a médio e longo prazo pode gerar transtornos.A cidade é administrada pelo executivo na figura da prefeita municipal, a câmara de vereadores atua como poder legislativo e fiscalizador e o poder judiciário está representado nas figuras dos juízes da comarca e promotoria, tendo sua jurisdição atuante na comarca e administrativamente dentro do limite municipal, sendo em hierarquia subordinada ao governo estadual e federal.07/16/2021 01:47:15
