However, due to the age of the network and the inadequate hydraulic dimensioning of part of its sections, a large annual investment in the rehabilitation of water and wastewater pipelines is necessary. At the same time, in addition to the increasing soil impermeability, the city of Porto faces other important challenges arising from climate change impacts intensification, namely floods and overflows that are increasingly frequent as a result of intense precipitation in short periods of time.Whenever possible, and adopting drainage networks management good practices, the rainwater reuse should be privileged, as well as the rainwater natural absorption / infiltration in the soil (both in building areas and in public areas) with slow release to the public system. Examples of good practices are usually known as LID (Low Impact Development), and promote the temporary accumulation of rainwater, its infiltration and / or its reuse (eg, rain gardens, green roofs, permeable pavements), thus minimizing the expected negative impacts. | 07/16/2021 01:47:15 | |||
