The Municipal Solidarity Restaurants Network provides assistance to homeless or people in need and unfavourable conditions to have access to a regular, healthy and balanced diet. The meals distributed include fruit and fresh vegetables. The program includes a multidisciplinary team (nutritionists, health and social professionals and social organizations) to guarantee the preparation and distribution of food in conditions of dignity and food security and to replace the distribution of meals in the public space. There are currently two solidarity restaurants, one of which integrates a central canteen where meals are prepared. Two additional restaurants will open until 2023 to cover the four strategic areas in town, as defined in the meal distribution route assessment in Porto, performed by the Porto’s Homeless Planning and Intervention Center. The Municipal Solidarity Restaurants Network is financed by the municipality. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and 5 American regional councils, which are: Chicago Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; Denver Regional Council of Governments; Metropolitan Council, Twin Cities; Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and Mid-America Regional Council.
