177178Cities 202020203422Greater London AuthorityUnited Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern IrelandEuropeAdaptationAdaptation Planning Process3.5Please explain how your city has addressed vulnerable groups through transformative action.00The GLA works with intelligence / demographics data to get a clear picture of social vulnerability to climate impacts – who the most vulnerable people are, where they are, etc., and how to target specific interventions (in the first instance, SuDS) to ensure that they benefit the areas where they are most needed. Social justice is a priority for the current Mayor of London and underpins a lot of what we do. Targeting climate-related actions (such as tackling fuel poverty, increasing provision of green infrastructure and adaptation actions) to areas where poverty and deprivation are at their worst is one way, for example, of multiplying the benefits of investment. Similarly, actions that address food insecurity will target disproportionately affected groups. The work underway to deliver a Green New Deal for London as part of the green recovery from Covid-19 is putting inequality at the heart of solutions. The pandemic has highlighted how the environment can have a disproportionate impact on Londoners, with those living in the most deprived areas most likely to experience poor air quality, cold, damp homes and limited access to green space. This may be worsened by the global economic downturn and the potential of mass unemployment. We will work to create good quality green jobs and target those most in need. We will also address London’s poor air quality and improve access to green spaces. the GLA is working to map social vulnerability in order to target interventions to benefit those most at risk and improve equity in/through climate action. The mapping uses a range of data and evidence including exposure metrics and vulnerability metrics to create a social and climate vulnerability map for London which will be used to target local adaptation measures such as greening as mitigation against urban heat and surface water flooding. The Mayor also regularly advocates for London’s utilities customers to ensure that London’s infrastructure providers plan and manage their assets, including during incidents when their assets fail, in a way that supports and benefits vulnerable groups.07/16/2021 01:47:15

Description

This data is collected through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System. When using this data, please cite both organisations using the following wording: ‘This data was collected in partnership by CDP and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability’.
This dataset contains the full responses of publicly disclosing cities in 2020. To view the complete cities 2020 questionnaire guidance, including all questions asked in 2020, visit https://www.cdp.net/en/guidance/guidance-for-cities. Please contact cities@cdp.net if you have any questions.
When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and 5 American regional councils, which are: Chicago Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; Denver Regional Council of Governments; Metropolitan Council, Twin Cities; Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and Mid-America Regional Council.
This view contains data from the CDP Cities Europe, CDP Cities Africa and CDP Cities Middle East Authority Regions.
