Many administrative, cultural, educational and health centres are located in Podgorica, as well as many economic capacities. The administrative boarders of the Capital city are on the south-east part of Montenegro, i.e. according to the geographical coordinates, between 420 11’ and 420 43’ of north latitude and 190 02’ and 190 43’ east longitude (according to Greenwich). It covers the area of 1.492 km2 or 10.7 % of the Montenegrin territory, those boarders with Albania, on the south with Skadar Lake and Municipality of Bar, on the west side with royal capital Cetinje and Municipality of Danilovgrad, on the north with Municipalities Kolašin and Andrijevica. The distance from the sea is 40 kilometers of air distance. Rivers Morača, Ribnica, Zeta, Sitnica and Cijevna represent a special value and natural beauty of the city. A part of Skadarsko lake, the biggest lake in the Balkans also belongs to the territory of Podgorica, as well as two smaller lakes – Bukumirsko and a part of Rikavačko lake. The region of Komova is a protected area and represents an impressive mountain massif, According to the official census from 2011, Podgorica has got 185.937 inhabitants, however due to the developments and other trends it is estimated that this number is much bigger. The Urban Municipality Golubovci, which according to the data from the census from 2011 has got 16.231 people. The Urban Municipality of Tuzi is no longer an integral part of the Capital city Podgorica, although there has been no territorial division yet. According to the spatial-demographic analysis Podgorica is an area of high concentration, with a population density of 117 inh./km2, which is significantly higher than the national average (45). Podgorica is not only the administrative centre of Montenegro, but it is also its main economic driver. Most of the Montenegrin industry and financial companies are located in Podgorica. Podgorica comprises several areas that, in accordance with their characteristics determine the type of agricultural production. During 2017, two clusters in agriculture and food industry have established in Podgorica. The most important representative in the field of food processing is company “Plantaže”, whose production 27 kinds of quality wines. The Capital city is connected with the coastal part of Montenegro via Adriatic motorway: Podgorica – Bar, and it is linked with the continental part of the country through the canyons of Morača and Tara rivers. The main railway connection for the city is Beograd-Bar railroad. From “Golubovci” airport, located 12 km away from the city centre, there are flights for the most important European destinations. Temperatures in the analysed period from 1951 to 2010 in Podgorica the mean annual temperature shows a warming trend. The period from 2001 to 2010 was the warmest decade from the beginning of measurements (1949 for Podgorica). In this decade, the mean annual temperature was 1°C warmer than during the base period 1961 to 1990 (Ivanov, 2014). The medium annual air temperature in Podgorica is 15.8 ° C. The absolute maximum of temperature was measured in August 2007, with the value of 44.8 ° C.Precipitation In the period analysed (1951 to 2010), no significant change of mean annual precipitation was observed. The year 2010 was the record year in annual amount of precipitation, which coincides with strongly developed La Nina (Ivanov, 2015).Podgorica is located in an unstable area, with very pronounced seismic activity. The area of Podgorica is potentially exposed to the effects of the earthquake. This data is collected through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System. When using this data, please cite both organisations using the following wording: ‘This data was collected in partnership by CDP and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability’.
This dataset contains the full responses of publicly disclosing cities in 2020. To view the complete cities 2020 questionnaire guidance, including all questions asked in 2020, visit https://www.cdp.net/en/guidance/guidance-for-cities. Please contact cities@cdp.net if you have any questions.
When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and 5 American regional councils, which are: Chicago Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; Denver Regional Council of Governments; Metropolitan Council, Twin Cities; Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and Mid-America Regional Council.
