Apart from that, municipal light has been upgraded to LED in a number of streets.In addition, many residencies in the municipality of Athens participated in the national project "eksoikonomo kat oikon (I save at home)", being funded for energy-saving retrofitting actions.Furthermore, 2018 was much milder than 2017 (heating degree days lower by 18.1% and cooling degree days lower by 1.4%, according to data from http://meteosearch.meteo.gr/stationInfo.asp), thus energy consumption for heating in all buildings in Athens with fossil fuels decreased also thanks to milder weather conditions.The synergies of technological changes both at national (significant increase of RES in the electricity energy mix, funding energy-saving actions in residencies), in municipal (energy-saving actions in municipal buildings and street lights), in combination with the milder climatic conditions of 2018 have led to a decrease of stationary energy consumption by 3.0% and a decrease of GHGs from these activities by 9.8%. in comparison with 2017.Thanks to the increase of composting at municipal level, in conjunction with the reduction of waste generation, GHG emissions from waste have reduced by 4.6%.Regarding transport, GHG emissions have increased by 4.3%, mostly due to the increase of both international and national flights (aviation) - Athens' visitability increased in 2018 by 19% in comparison to 2017.* This increase is also due to the fact that new municipal buildings were added to the existing ones in 2018, one of them building a municipal indoor swimming pool, where water is heated with natural gas. | 07/16/2021 01:47:15 | ||

When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.

This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and 5 American regional councils, which are: Chicago Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; Denver Regional Council of Governments; Metropolitan Council, Twin Cities; Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and Mid-America Regional Council.
