Incorporated in 1953, Henderson currently encompasses more than 105 square miles (272 square kilometers) and is situated near three of the most renowned man-made attractions in the world – the Las Vegas Strip, the Hoover Dam, and Lake Mead National Recreation Area. TransportationHenderson residents primarily rely on personal vehicles as the primary source of transportation. More than 80% of Henderson residents commute by themselves in a car to work, while only 2% of residents use public transportation and 1% walk. The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) coordinates public transportation and transportation planning for the region and oversees two rapid transit bus lines – the Boulder Highway Express (BHX) and the Henderson Downtown Express (HDX) Lines – that connect Downtown Las Vegas with Henderson. Additionally, a freight railroad route (UPRR) and two interstate highways (I-15 and US 95) and the I-215 Southern Beltway cross Henderson and serve to connect people and move goods throughout the city and to other parts of the state. Climate CharacteristicsHenderson is located within the Mojave Desert in the North American Southwest and is classified as having a subtropical, hot desert climate (BWwh) in the Koppen climate classification system, with mild winters and extremely hot and dry summer months. Henderson averages 292 clear days per year, with the hottest month in July and the coldest month in December. FeaturesHenderson is the only full-service city in Southern Nevada, meaning that the City has its own dedicated police, fire, water, and sewer services to more efficiently serve its residents.The City’s parks, open spaces and cultural and recreation institutions provide residents with ample amenities and high quality of life. More than 1,300 acres of developed parkland constitute the 64 parks within the open space system. These parks include more than 120 miles of trails that connect to a larger city-wide network that totals about 200 miles.DemographicsAccording to the 2018 American Community Survey 1-year estimates, the demographic makeup of the City of Henderson is as follows: White – 73.5%; Black or African American – 5.8%; American Indian – 0.6%; Asian – 8.6%; Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander – 0.8%; Some Other Race – 4.9%; Two or More Races – 5.8%.Additionally, Henderson also has become a much more racially and ethnically diverse city in recent years. Description
This data is collected through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System. When using this data, please cite both organisations using the following wording: ‘This data was collected in partnership by CDP and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability’.
This dataset contains the full responses of publicly disclosing cities in 2020. To view the complete cities 2020 questionnaire guidance, including all questions asked in 2020, visit https://www.cdp.net/en/guidance/guidance-for-cities. Please contact cities@cdp.net if you have any questions.
When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and 5 American regional councils, which are: Chicago Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; Denver Regional Council of Governments; Metropolitan Council, Twin Cities; Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and Mid-America Regional Council.
