A numeric target was set for city-owned properties: to achieve a minimum of 30% energy use reduction by 2030. The City of Providence has been benchmarking and monitoring its energy consumption since 2010 and has released an annual municipal energy report since FY 2015. Tracking all of the electric, natural gas, oil and water used by City facilities (using the EPA Energy Star Portfolio Manager) helps the City manage its energy consumption and identify opportunities for investment and savings. In FY 2019, the City saw a 7% reduction in energy use and a 28% reduction in energy expenditures from our baseline year of FY 2010. The 2019 Climate Justice Plan set more specific citywide energy efficiency targets. By 2035, 48% of residential heating and 45% of commercial will be converted to heat pumps. By 2050, 90% of residential heating and 85% of commercial will be converted to heat pumps. The plan centers low-income households, aiming to increase energy efficiency program participation, energy savings, and investment in energy efficiency and electrification dollars, specifically for low-income households in Providence. The Climate Justice Plan also aims to reduce low-income energy burden to <5% and eliminate utility shut offs, both by 2040.07/16/2021 01:47:15
