In response to this, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is developing the DEWA Climate Change Resilience Plan to address the climate threats on Dubai’s electricity and water assets and operations in order to support the decision makers in screening and prioritizing risks and appropriate prevention and mitigation actions for the resilience plan.Furthermore, in order to ensure that the power and water supply would not be affected, DEWA has integrated a climate change category within its Environmental Risk Management (ERM) framework which will allow DEWA to flag existing and future risks for potential climate change impacts on the assets and operations. DEWA is examining the risks of disruption on the network as well as supply and demand to ensure that DEWA has a comprehensive plan to provide backup capacity and prevent consumer outages due to the impact of climate change on the generation and transmission assets. At the moment, Dubai has 100% coverage for water and power as it also has additional capacity in both thereby providing resilience in regard access to basic services against the impacts of climate change. It is also increasing its wastewater treatment capacity as the current wastewater treatment facilities are at full capacity and is working on optimizing the use of treated sewage effluent to minimize wastage. Separately, as part of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 and Dubai Clean Energy 2050 Strategy, Dubai is working on energy efficiency and clean energy provision on several fronts. The emirate is building several renewable energy and clean energy power generation stations/projects. It has also issued strict building codes which aim to minimize energy and water use. This will help the emirate meet its increasing energy demands in a more sustainable manner. City-wide emergency water reserve are being built in order to provide increased resilience for water supply. | 07/16/2021 01:47:15 | |||
