Emissions Reduction5.4Describe the anticipated outcomes of the most impactful mitigation actions your city is currently undertaking; the total cost of the action and how much is being funded by the local government.12Action description and implementation progress1CNV was the first BC municipality to implement the BC Energy Step Code for New Buildings in December, 2017. Under the performance-based requirements, new buildings must achieve high energy efficiency targets. When compared to the base building code requirements, new homes must be 20% more energy efficient and new large residential buildings must be 20-40% more energy efficient. Further, all developments seeking rezoning must achieve an additional level of energy efficiency and complete a response to the City's Sustainable Development Guidelines, encouraging the use of green building features. In 2020, the City is adopted a low carbon compliance pathway for Energy Step Code requirements for single family homes and ground-oriented housing. This new compliance framework requires homes to achieve the highest level of performance under the Energy Step Code, or achieve relaxed targets with low carbon mechanical systems. By incentivizing low carbon space and water heating systems, new homes will produce up to 90% fewer GHG emissions.Detailed emissions reductions estimates and timescales are not included due to limited resources.
