The facility is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 7,200 tonnes per year by reducing LEC’s usage of natural gas and converting the system to operate on more renewable energy sources.

The City also worked with ClimateSmart to complete a business energy and emission profile (BEEP) to better understand the emissions generated by local businesses. This work will inform further engagement with the business community in achieving emissions reductions.The City also partners with the EmpowerMe program to reach New Canadians and multi-lingual communities through trusted messengers with information about home energy efficiency, waste diversion and sustainable transportation in the face of climate change. Empower Me uses a peer-to-peer model to equip Mentors from diverse communities to bring messages to their communities in order to address energy poverty and promote sustainable behavior change in underserved communities.
