It is an important trading center having the largest seaport in the CALABARZON region. Located at the southern portion of the province, Batangas City, a coastal city which occupies the eastern portion of Batangas Bay is approximately 112 kilometers south of Manila and may be reached in 2 hours by land or 8 hours by water. Batangas City is bounded on the north by the municipality of San Jose, on the east by the municipalities of Ibaan, Taysan and Lobo, on the northwest by the municipality of San Pascual, and on the south and west by Batangas Bay. The city has 105 barangays, 6 of which are located in Verde Island. Batangas City is divided into two land masses by the Calumpang River: the northern portion composed of 49 urban barangays with an approximate area of 5,051.84 hectares or 17.7% of the total land area; and the southern portions comprised of 56 rural barangays including Isla Verde with a combined area of 23,366.88 hectares or 81.8%.
