Opportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity1Climate change could bring new opportunities for Trelleborg to become a future tourist hot spot and for developing of the tourism sector. It is important for the municipality to be ready to meet increased demand and visitor pressure on the coastline with its beaches and other recreational areas, in particular if tourist flows in the future begin to turn from south to north because of the changed climate. Finally, awareness needs to be raised about the opportunities and challenges of tourism in a changing climate , both municipal organisation and the tourism industry. The future summer period in Trelleborg will be warmer and longer and this will attract many more and many more long-distance visitors to our beaches, recreational areas and cultural hot spots.
13236960236Municipality of TrelleborgSwedenEurope6. Opportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity2Trelleborg municipality has 82 % agricultural land, which the municipality wants to protect. A large percentage of these percentages is classified as Class 10, which is among the best soils in the world. How these soils are affected during the future climate change is interesting from both the municipality's and farmers' perspective. Warmer and longer summer season gives great framing opportunities: New kind of crops can be farmed in the Trelleborg Municipality, such as vineyards. It might also be possible to harvest some crops two times a year. The municipality started in 2021, as part of the rural development strategy, a dialogue group with farmers where the impact of the climate issue on agriculture is discussed as well as what opportunities there are for transition and development. So far, we have mainly discussed* climate impact from local agriculture activities and how to find measurement methods.* the future need for fertilizers. * how local farms can contribute solar energy solutions.

Opportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity3Participates in European hydrogen project; one of eight filling stations for roads in Sweden will be built in Trelleborg. Investigate the possibility of changing production facility in Trelleborg.Implementation of hydrogen in the energy system in Trelleborg municipality and become predecessor in the hydrogen field. The investment is part of a long-term plan for Trelleborg to develop into an attractive development-oriented municipality with urban development as the engine. PV installation for oxygen and hydrogen production, to develop buildings as educational examples for sustainable energy systems and to ensure that an already decided refuelling station is through their own and others' vehicles and for the citizens of the city. The measures provide a good basis for longer-term investments, as skills technologies become available and costs fall. An offshore wind farm is assumed to be an important prerequisite for large-scale hydrogen production, which can cover the needs of increasing proportion of fuel cell driven trucks, trains and ferries. Hydrogen can balance the electricity grid or be used industrially. Excess heat from hydrogen production can be utilised.

Opportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity4The warming of the sea produces increased amounts of finely threaded algae floating ashore on the beaches. The algae masses can be collected and turned into biochar and used as a soil improver. Attempts in progress EU project: Business models for seaweed handling will be created. Biochar project. "Rest to Best" is a Vinnova-funded project whose purpose is to develop solutions to manage society's organic residues (park and garden waste, sludge, algae and seaweed) and create an in-demand utility product (biochar) while minimizing environmental and climate impact and establishing a carbon sink.

Opportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity5Coastal City 2025: The port's move eastwards frees up large attractive areas where Trelleborg municipality plans for coastal districts. Homes with different types of tenure, premises for service and operations, experiences and with more than 5 km of accessible quayside will connect the central city directly to the sea.Brand new coastal neighborhoods, at least 70 hectares, will be built with housing and activities at a new elevated level, 3.5 - 4 meters above sea level, protecting both the new settlement and the existing city behind from rising sea levels. The new port area that is added to the east is also raised to an elevated level and thus protects the station and the railway yard and the existing city behind. The entire project serves as a living knowledge center in sustainability as we make testbeds and new sustainable solutions in sectors as energy , transports, infrastructure, waste management, water management and coastal protection while planning and construction continues.Heat Island Project, with RISE Gothenburg: Through a collaboration with researchers and Lerum municipality, we get the opportunity to create new methods for meeting the future heat waves; where we have the worst heat islands, how heatwave affects children and the elderly. The work has so far led to measures for schools and preschools and how we can better take care of older residents. Trelleborg can be at the forefront of understanding heat waves and acting correctly when they occur.Sea level rise Project: A major study has been carried out on how the coastline will be affected by future sea level rise with suggestions on how it can be protected; different ways at different distances. This makes us prescient when planning new areas and creates security for those who live along the coast already.

Opportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity6The municipality has decided to become a fossil fuel-free municipal organization by 2030 in the sectors heating, electricity, travels and fuel and also to develop hydrogen as a vihicle fuel. This fossil fuel-free concept includes a major investment in service bikes and the offer of benefit bikes for the municipality's employees to reduce driving while working. Young inhabitants and the elderly are able to travel by train and bus free of charge within Skåne all year round. To become a fossil fuel free organisation is an important challenge that give us opportunities to transition to a climate-smart vehicle fleet and reduced travel by car and air and is an important part of our branding.
13237460236Municipality of TrelleborgSwedenEurope6. Opportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity7The climate issue has led us, in collaboration with nine other municipalities in southern Skåne, to develop a common Circular Plan with a greater focus on reuse than we have had before. This plan gives us great opportunities to reduce resource use throughout the area. This also will reduce emissions from product manufacturing. Cooperation with the other municipalities is also important for the municipality's brand.

Opportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity8A very large biogas plant has been producing biogas from agricultural residues in Jordberga in the east part of the Municipality, since 2014. The business is planning to develop into a small local industrial hub with industrial symbiosis between the different companies with biogas, wind power, pig farming and fish farming or vegetable cultivation in order to be as sustainable as possible. The project is important both to reduce climate impact and to create a vibrant countryside . It has already brought a lot of new knowledge to the area and have had several study visitors from all over the world. It has placed Trelleborg on the international biogas map.
