13545360391Municipalidad de San BorjaPeruLatin America0.1Please give a general description and introduction to your city including your city’s reporting boundary in the table below.2Description of city1Please completeThe district of San Borja is one of the 43 districts that conform to the province of Lima to the south of the capital of Peru. It has an approximate surface of 9,814 square kilometers whose perimeter borders with the districts of San Luis, La Victoria, Ate, Santiago de Surco, Surquillo and San Isidro. Moreover, San Borja is considered an urban district that has buildings with a collective architecture and low density, always seeking to generate good living spaces for its inhabitants. Currently, San Borja has a population of 113.540 inhabitants, reaching a population density equal to 11.569,187 inhabitants per square kilometer. Likewise, to satisfy the economic needs of the population it is calculated that 71,5 % of the farms with economic activities are dedicated to commerce and services on a local scale, followed by 13 % that is dedicated to professional offices, stands and galleries, which form part of the economic income for the district through the tributary taxes that these and the Sanborjina population make annually to the municipality. On the other hand, the educational level of the people who live in the district is among the highest in Metropolitan Lima or at the national level, where 61% have achieved higher education, 23% have completed high school and 10% finished the elementary education. As a socioeconomic and environmental manager, San Borja has been developing new strategies and mechanisms of integral management elaborated by the different administrative departments that integrate the Municipality, these are commanded by the mayor of the district. The strategies and mechanisms of public integral management are aligned with the last agreements that have been carried out in the different environmental summits and conferences carried out by the World Organization of the United Nations at the world level, in order to confront the current climate crisis. To this end, the Department of the Environment and Sustainability has created gears that involve sustainable strategies for the care and protection of the local environment, such as (1) Energy efficiency. (2) Efficient use of water. (3) Sustainable mobility. (4) Recycling and re-use of organic and inorganic solid waste and (5) Urban forestry. These five gears move with the energy that the Sanborjina population supplies to the system through its involvement and engagement, at the same time these gears move the wheel of the Circular Economy that encompasses 100% ecological strategies thereby reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and the ecological footprint of the district, preserving its flora and fauna for future generations, further creating healthy and comfortable public spaces for the development of human life.

Governance and Data Management1.0Please detail sustainability goals and targets (e.g. GHG reductions) that are incorporated into your city’s master plan and describe how these are addressed in the table below.2Description1Nowadays, the Municipality of San Borja is carrying out the development and execution of different socio-environmental programs, which are aligned with the National Environmental Action Plan of Peru projected from 2011 to 2021 and the Local Environmental Policy approved through Ordinance N° 573-MSB. The actions that San Borja has been carrying out in compliance with these policies has allowed the integration of new environmental education and awareness programs focused on the population and, through these, committing them to the care of the air, soil and water. Furthermore, these actions have allowed the implementation of new environmental management tools to measure, for example, the parameters that allow us to know the air quality of the district, which is why in 2009 an air quality station was implemented to measure the parameters of PM 2.5, PM 10, SO2, NO2, O3 and CO. Also, San Borja has the only system of geolocation of its trees, achieving the georeferencing of 46,224 trees in the earth system, allowing us to know how much carbon dioxide is being trapped by the type of tree species that has been planted. Moreover, taking advantage of the tree cover to produce comfortable microclimates with low noise levels and temperature for sports activities that promote health care for neighboring Sanborjino. On the other hand, the development of the integral management and reuse program of solid waste in San Borja has allowed it to have the only underground container system in the whole South American continent. In order to reduce expenses in the collection and disposal of solid waste, San Borja has incorporated public institutions through strategic cooperation. It is has been immersed in the ecological strategies proposed in the Circular Economy with the reuse of 100% of organic solid waste from the parks and gardens of the District. The renewable energy and energy efficiency systems promoted by the municipality are part of an ecological education that ensures good environmental practices and also motivate other institutions to follow their example. The new strategies that San Borja is implementing to reduce its ecological footprint are centered on the comfort of its population, despite the fact that it has been increasing vertically and add up the raw material generated in the Circular Economy.
