Likewise, the San Borja en Bici program was awarded in 2017 with the "Antonio Brack Egg National Environmental Award" for the program's daily contribution to climate change mitigation that demonstrates the district's commitment to the environment. The Municipality of San Borja has active participation in national and international networks of cities committed to sustainable and equitable human development: Since 2011 it is part of the low CO2 cities model promoted by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) and is a member since 2010 of the network of safe communities promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Karolinska Institute of Sweden. Promoting sustainable mobility is one of the priority objectives that the Municipality of San Borja seeks to achieve within the framework of its SUSTAINABLE CITY policy. In this line, it seeks to promote the use of bicycles in short distances, provide facilities for interconnection with mass public transport (Metro de Lima and Metropolitano) and encourage the rational use of private cars. Therefore, the initiative to have the first public bicycle program in the country.

Moreover, the municipality of San Borja has two surface water treatment plants, which are responsible for treating the water from the Surco River through a biophysical system totally natural. These safe waters of category 3, according to the Peruvian standards of environmental quality of the water, come to be used for the irrigation of the green areas of the municipality.

Opportunities6.12Describe how your city plans to enhance ambition and scale up Climate Action Plan (integrated/adaptation/mitigation) and actions to achieve climate neutrality, net zero emissions, carbon neutrality or 100% renewables.0In San Borja, several infrastructure projects have been developed in a low-carbon urban development aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:- Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. In order to guarantee the availability of water and its sustainable management as well as sanitation for all, the Municipality of San Borja promotes the responsible use of water, through the operation of two biophysical water treatment plants of the Surco River, located in the Islas Malvinas and Felicidad Parks, for the use of the resource obtained in the irrigation of the green areas of the commune.- Objective 7: Affordable and non-polluting energyIn order to consolidate the increase and access to affordable, reliable, modern and renewable energy, the Municipality of San Borja has been implementing clean technology and energy efficiency systems, such as wind and solar charging systems for cell phones; it also promotes research on alternative energies and the development of clean energy technology and infrastructure, being the Kallpa Wasi theme park a learning center for the district of San Borja. - Objective 12: Responsible production and consumption In order to promote a sustainable use of all natural and energy resources, from a social, economic and environmental point of view, in all phases of production, transportation and consumption of all types of products, the Municipality of San Borja has established a continuous process of compost production in the two composting plants located in the Kallpa Wasi theme park and in the Army Headquarters, which was implemented in collaboration with the Army of Peru, for the use of this resource in the care of the green areas of the municipality and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.- Goal 13: Climate Action Aligned to strengthen the resilience of countries and their capacity to adapt to climate-related hazards and natural disasters through the integration of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in national strategies, policies and planning; the Municipality of San Borja has implemented the Kallpa Wasi Theme Park, as well as spaces for ecological agriculture in the district's urban bio-gardens, in addition to the Muévete en Bici and San Borja Más Verde programs.- Objective 15: Life of Terrestrial Ecosystems With the intention of protecting, restoring and promoting the conservation and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, the Municipality of San Borja manages and arduously executes the planting and maintenance of thousands of trees and various species of flora in the green areas of the district.
