Given the high cost of living and housing crisit that currently exists, Town of Vail is also working to increase stock of affordable work force housing to support those employed in the community. Since the pandemic, Vail has added 4 fully electric buses to its transit fleet and piloted an electric bike share program. There are regional planning efforts in place to expand this program. Vail is also launching an electric bike ownership program for a limited number of income qualified residents who commit to commuting by electric bike twice per week in non-snow months to reduce their carbon footprint. Town of Vail also received two private land donations to conver them to designated and protected open space. Town of Vail also increased its messaging on Leave No Trace outdoor ethics to better educate the public using the green spaces and public lands surrounding Vail in an effort to mitigate overuse, wildlife conflict and litter issues so the trails and open spaces can remain accessible for residents and visitors.
