This effort was planned in coordination with the City’s outdoor dining initiative. Ultimately, this allowed the City’s downtown area to be much more accessible to walkers and cyclists, and the City is currently in the process of making some of the pedestrian-only zones permanent. This is a strong example of an initiative that the Office of Sustainability would have liked to have pursue sooner but would not have been possible without the need presented by COVID-19 economic recovery.
