The program was funded through a reallocation of $227,500 from the City’s Sustainability Fund and $27,500 from planned expenditures within the General Fund budget. The reallocation of funds from the Sustainability Fund to the FARR grant program will not impact planned sustainability work, the schedule of proposed sustainable infrastructure capital improvements planned for FY 2022-2026, or purchases of environmentally friendly vehicles. Unused FARR Grant funds will be returned at the end of the year to the Sustainability Fund. The City also is rolling out an electricity aggregation program which will generate approximately $130,000 of new revenue for the Sustainability Fund next year.

The office is tasked with promoting actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, prioritize climate-resilient infrastructure and spaces, enhance nature-based solutions, and advance the community towards a clean and equitable future. As noted in the Climate Emergency Declaration, the the Town's climate mobilization should "(1) accelerate adaptationand resilience strategies in preparation for intensifying local and global climate impacts; (2) protecttrees, forests, and other open spaces because of their ability to draw carbon out of the atmosphere andstore it; and (3) ensure that the costs of such mobilization efforts do not unfairly burden those who are economically or socially disadvantaged, and that the benefits of a realized, sustainable future accrue to all." Building climate resilient spaces means tackling underlying drivers of inequality and poverty, stopping biodiversity loss and curbing the spread of infectious disease. The Sustainability Office is tasked with tackling cross-cutting issues that also intersect with COVID-19 recovery interventions.

This is an example of a no-cost change in strategy that will help us achieve our VMT goals.
