113889Cities 2021202116581City of Seattle, WAUnited States of AmericaNorth America1. Governance and Data ManagementGovernance1.7Please provide information specifically on the impact of the COVID-19 economic response on climate action in your city and synergies between COVID-19 recovery interventions and climate action.3Explanation1ResponseThe pandemic resulted in a decline of $120 million in 2021 revenue compared to 2020, with a further $65 million decline possible. The City's costs are also expected to grow from 2020 to 2021 due to inflation. Regardless of the adversity that we have had to face, OSE staff embarked on a human-centered planning process and identified recommended recovery strategies, including policies, programs and processes, that tackle issues of climate pollution, food access and security, health, and jobs while prioritizing people, small businesses and communities most impacted by COVID-19. Five teams from across different operational units of the department, leaned on resources such as the priorities identified in the Equity and Environment Agenda, Race and Social Justice Initiative, COVID-19 Racial Equity Toolkit, Duwamish River Action Plan, the C40 Task Force principles, and relevant data to center their recommendations. This process provided opportunities for staff to collaborate and cross-pollinate ideas in interdisciplinary workgroups, and has formed the basis of how we are approaching our work today.01/19/2022 02:30:06
