Introduction0.1Please give a general description and introduction to your city including your city’s reporting boundary in the table below.2Description of city1Please completeMakati City is located in the Philippines. It is one of the 17 Local Government Units (LGUs) comprising Metropolitan Manila, the country’s National Capital Region (NCR). Technically, Makati is located within the quadrangle of 14°33’1” N latitude north and 121°01’1” E longitude east.Makati is bounded on the north by Pasig River facing Mandaluyong City, on the east by the Municipality of Pateros, on the northwest by the City of Manila, and southwest by the City of Pasay. With a total land area of 27.36 square kilometers which accounts for 4.3% of NCR’s total land area, the city has a very compact urban environment with very limited expansion. Thus, most of the developments are vertical.Makati has two (2) districts which are further subdivided into 33 barangays (villages) – the smallest political unit in the country. Based on land area, excluding roads, there are three (3) major land uses in the City and they are as follows: residential (38%); commercial/mixed use (15%); and institutional (14%).Makati has been in existence for 339 years. It was converted from a municipality into a highly-urbanized city on 2 January 1995 through Republic Act No. 7854 with the overwhelming approval of the residents in a plebiscite held on 4 February 1995. Currently known as the Financial Center of the country, the City caters to more than 85,568 registered business establishments in 2019. In which 29,412 or 34.37% of the total registered business establishments are in Services while 23,619 are in the wholesale/Retail or 27.60%, followed by Real Estate with 12,541 or 14.66% of the total number of registered businesses. Other than mentioned, there are 9,024 businesses into restaurants and amusement places, 4,970 into banks and finance, 3,933 into exports/imports, 1,547 into manufacturing, around 522 into special business permit, 45 embassies, 37 consulates, 10 international organizations, and 45 shopping malls. Its night time population of 582,602, as of 2015 Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) census, reaches around 3.2 to 4.2 million during work days as influx of people from other parts of the region and nearby provinces go to Makati to work, study, do business, or shop.Makati City sustains its identity as the most economically dynamic locality based on the assessment of its national competitiveness. This proves its functional role as the country’s premier business district with business explosion that commenced since the early 80’s. The commercial activities are largely concentrated in this city and it still serves as the primary link to international finance and the global economy. The total revenue of the City in 2019 is PhP 18.77 billion or US$ 390 Million (Php48= US$1 April 2021).Makati’s climate falls under the Type 1 Category, which has two (2) pronounced seasons, considerably wet from May to October and relatively dry and cool from November to April. Its average temperature is 27.8104 degrees Celsius. The City’s topography is characterized by smooth topographic surface with elevation ranging from 0 to 36 meters above sea level. Makati is almost flat on all areas. About 75 percent of its land area has a slope of 0-3 percent or about 0 to 6 degree angle. In terms of hydrology, Makati has 16 creeks and rivers, some serve as the City’s natural boundary with neighboring cities and municipality.Makati is still considered to be the premier address of investors because of its business-friendly and business-stimulating environment complemented by the availability of superior infrastructure and facilities and unmatched quality of services. To accelerate the development of the City using the emerging technology, proceeding with careful consideration of the environmental impact such as climate change. The City embarked in the use of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) through the Makati City Smart Plan.
