Governance and Data ManagementGovernance1.0Please detail sustainability goals and targets (e.g. GHG reductions) that are incorporated into your city’s master plan and describe how these are addressed in the table below.2Description1The City of West Palm Beach has integrated the LEED for Cities and Communities framework to identify key priorities that will move the City toward it's vision of a vibrant, resilient community. These key areas are being included in the City's comprehensive Sustainability Action Plan. One such priority is Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions, which encompasses many of the City's environmental goals, including net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This goal was established in 2015 when the City signed onto the Global Covenant of Mayors. The City has set several additional emission reduction goals through the Better Buildings Challenge, including a 20% reduction in portfolio energy intensity from 2010 baseline by 2022; this goal was achieved in 2015. To meet our emission reduction goals, the Sustainability Action Plan for the City includes objectives to reduce emissions by requiring green building standards, such as LEED Silver certifications, for new development and renovations greater than 1,000 square feet. The Plan also prioritizes the Natural Systems portion of the LEED for Cities and Communities framework to emphasize and promote the development of green infrastructure and increase the tree canopy within the City, which will help sequester carbon dioxide. The City has also developed a Climate Task Force to identify methods to reduce emissions, adapt to climate change, and enhance equity through the implementation of The Plan. The City's Climate and Resiliency Assessment incorporates a robust framework that encompasses all of the commitments and initiatives that the City has pledged to abide by. Additionally, the City's Comprehensive Plan has been updated to include a Climate and Resiliency elements which established policies and ordinances set forth by the goals and targets outlined in the Sustainability Action Plan. West Palm Beach also partnered with Tesla in 2019 to install 38 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations in the City's three main parking garages at no cost to taxpayers. The City was also the first city in the state of Florida to integrate electric buses to its fleet in 2020.01/20/2022 02:27:05
