132071Cities 2021202154519Lunds kommunSwedenEurope0. Introduction0.1Please give a general description and introduction to your city including your city’s reporting boundary in the table below.2Description of city1Please completeThe city council of Lund has stated that Lund shall be a climate-neutral and fossil fuel-free municipality adapted to a changing climate in 2030. In 2021 Lund ranked the best municipality in Sweden to live in regarding environmental aspects. Lund was awarded Best in Sweden in sustainable transport solutions in 2020 for the fifth consecutive year and Sweden’s best Cycling Town in 2017. For years Lund has been top of the Eco Food League and 75 per cent of the municipality’s purchase were organic in 2020. Lund is one of Scandinavia’s oldest towns. Its university is ranked among the leading universities in the world. Today, Lund is Sweden’s 12th biggest municipality with about 126000 inhabitants, 20 per cent of which were born abroad. The population has increased steadily since the 1920’s. Half of the population of Lund has pursued post-secondary education. The biggest employers in Lund are the Skåne University Hospital, Lund University, and the City of Lund. Lund university was founded in 1666. It has for the past years been ranked as one of the top 100 universities in the world. With its 40 000 full time students and thousands of researchers from all over the world the university shapes the town and its character. Five billion Swedish crowns are annually distributed for research within eight faculties. World-leading companies like Tetra Pak, Axis Communications and Alfa Laval have their origin in research from Lund University, and new ones keep to start up. Towards the north east, a new part of town is being built - Brunnshög. Here, the research facilities MAX IV and ESS will lay the ground for world class materials research. Residual heat from the research facilities is used for district heating and other purposes in a circular economy. In 2018 Lund appointed the first local Climate Policy Council in Sweden. The members of the council are eight researchers from various disiplines. The council delivers an annual review of the municipal work for climate mitigation and adaptation. So far they have concluded that the municipal work to decarbonize heating and production of electricity has been successful, but they also stress the fact that a lot more has to be done in the transport sector. They also encourage the municipality to invite citizens and local business to join the work to reach the climate targets. The reporting boundary is the geographical area of Lund Municipality.01/20/2022 02:27:05
