132420Cities 2021202131151Stadt BaselSwitzerlandEurope14. Water SecurityWater Supply Management14.4aPlease provide more information on your city’s public Water Resource Management strategy.1Publication title and attach document2https://www.bs.ch/publikationen/klimaschutz/bericht-anpassung-klimawandel-kanton-basel-stadt.html The demand for Rhine water for drinking water supply amounts to a maximum of 0.5% of the Rhine discharge. This amount can be taken from the Rhine even during extreme drought, provided that the other parameters (turbidity, trace pollution, etc.) are fulfilled (cf. measure biomonitoring of raw water withdrawal). Currently, the maximum drinking water extraction rate in the Lange Erlen is 70 000 m3 per day. This drinking water is available exclusively to the canton of Basel-Stadt. Drinking water extraction in the Hardwald is operated by Hardwasser AG. The maximum volume that can be extracted is 100 000 m3 per day. The canton of Basel-Stadt has a daily right to draw 68 200 m3 from Hardwasser AG. The drinking water reservoirs hold an additional 52 000 m3. This drinking water volume serves as a buffer to cover uneven demand during the day and to maintain the water pressure in the pipeline system. In 2019, a general water supply plan (GWP) was drawn up on behalf of the IWB. This takes into account the development of water demand in the canton of Basel-Stadt and in the municipalities of Binningen and Allschwil, primarily taking population trends into account. For redundancy reasons, it is necessary in terms of safety that the average daily demand can be covered by one plant (Langen Erlen or Hardwasser AG) alone. Taking into account the population growth of around 11% up to 2040, it has been shown that the Langen Erlen plant will have to be expanded from 70,000 m3/d to 83,300 m3/d in order to ensure security of supply. For safety reasons, this increase in groundwater pumping capacity in the Langen Erlen must be geographically distributed over the entire groundwater protection zone and be carried out via several groundwater extraction wells.Access to water ist Standard01/20/2022 02:27:05
