141812Cities 2021202158569City of PodgoricaMontenegroEurope1. Governance and Data ManagementGovernance1.6Please provide information on the overall impact of COVID-19 on climate action in your city.2Comment1ResponseJust like in many cities, on the beginning of the pandemic, work process has been reduced in many sectors. The Podgorica, has undertaken temporary measures to prevent the transmission of coronavirus. A measure has been introduced suspension of public transport for passengers and suspension of taxi transportation, as well. This has resulted in people have turning to an alternative mode of mobility / cycling. The city responded positively to this phenomenon and started the planned activity of improving the cycling infrastructure by establishing new cycling corridors. This trend continues.Measures related to the suspension of public passenger transport lasted for two months and has been carried out in compliance with other practical measures. However, the implementation and effects of the measures are not at the desired level. The pandemic has unfortunately confirmed all the shortcomings of the public transport system in Podgorica. Which was anyhow known before the pandemic.Namely, our buses are old, with poor condition, they use fuel that significantly pollutes the air and other segments of the environment; Public transport coverage of the territory is inadequate, and the citizens are generally dissatisfied with the service.Wanting to start reforms and needed changes, we introduced an electronic ticket into the public transport system, since public transport is currently used mostly by vulnerable population - older people, women and children. In addition to that for citizens has been prepared as an online travel planner. Furthermore, these days we are preparing a public call which will, hopefully, initiate changes and needed improvement of public transport in Podgorica. Also, the pandemic triggered reflections on the need increase open landscaped green areas, which resulted in the establishment of new and arrangement of existing ones, as well as the improvement of pedestrian infrastructure. To conclude - Experience with a pandemic has shown us how important is to consider not only the direct impacts of measures. It is equally important to try to foresee the indirect impacts of certain measures on the quality of life of citizens.01/20/2022 02:27:05
