162785Cities 2021202154529City of LeicesterUnited Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern IrelandEurope1. Governance and Data ManagementGovernance1.6Please provide information on the overall impact of COVID-19 on climate action in your city.2Comment1ResponseOverall COVID-19 had a mixed impact, delaying the implementation of many actions, but also increasing focus on the climate emergency in the longer term. The council's Climate Emergency Strategy and Action Plan were developed just prior to the impact of the pandemic, public engagement on the new plan significantly reduced due to the need to communicate public health messaging. Whilst many actions were taken forwards as planned, there were also a number of delays due to the pandemic and lockdown within the city. Notably Leicester was subject to the longest local lockdown within the UK. This meant that many actions which relied on direct engagement with local residents, organisations and businesses had to be postponed until they were safe to carry out. However, some opportunities were taken to deliver further work, such as the setting up of new cycle lanes across the city as part of a covid-19 transport plan. The climate emergency is now being integrated into a number of recovery plans and funding bids for the future.01/20/2022 02:27:05
