338531Cities 20212021831431Cornwall CouncilUnited Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern IrelandEurope10. Transport10.12Please indicate if your city currently has any programs or projects to improve air quality.00Cornwall Council has progressed with actions included in the 2013 Air Quality Action Plans and Clean Air for Cornwall Strategy 20174 as well as other actions included within individual town transport strategies which have the aim of reducing congestion, increasing use of alternatives to the private car use and improving local air quality. The Clean Air for Cornwall Strategy is currently being reviewed and updated. In Truro, the Truro Western Corridor (A390) package of work has been completed including the signalisation of Treliske Roundabout and Threemilestone bus gate. These works have improved traffic flow and increased capacity. The bus gate means buses can pull straight out onto the A390 improving journey times and it is hoped this will encourage modal shirt.Three continuous Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) analysers are operating on the A390 working alongside a traffic monitoring system. It is hoped that eventually air quality data will be able to help influence traffic signalling.Upgrades have been made to bus stops across Cornwall providing real time information on services, encouraging modal shift. A full discussion of Action Plan progress is provided in the Cornwall Council 2019 Air Quality Annual Status Report. https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/media/42044434/cornwall-council-asr-2019.pdfCornwall Council was also successful in being awarded a £90K Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) grant to support ultra-low emission taxis across the County. The money will be used to install fast and rapid electric vehicle charging points, specifically for use by taxis. The locations of the charge points will be decided this year with installation expected to take place in 2020.01/20/2022 02:27:05
