Governance and Data ManagementGovernance1.0Please detail sustainability goals and targets (e.g. GHG reductions) that are incorporated into your city’s master plan and describe how these are addressed in the table below.2Description1The City of Chicago regularly reports on progress towards sustainability goals. Most recently, the City provided annual updates on progress towards the goals and actions outlined in the Sustainable Chicago Action Agenda. The City also has conducted greenhouse gas inventories every 5 years to determine progress towards long-term GHG reduction targets with the last report having been issued in 2020 (reporting on 2017 data). An updated GHG inventory is being developed for the Chicagoland region by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. The City of Chicago has proactively pursued an aggressive GHG reduction agenda to positively influence the global impacts of climate change. In 2008, the City unveiled the Chicago Climate Action Plan (CCAP) which outlined the City’s ambitious goals and actions to reduce Chicago’s GHG emissions 80% below 1990 levels by the year 2050, with an interim goal for the year 2020 of 25% below 1990 levels. In June 2017, the City committed to the goal of reducing citywide greenhouse gas emissions to levels equivalent to or greater than 26-28% reduction from 2005 levels by the year 2025, which is the original commitment made by the Obama Administration as part of the United States’ commitment to the Paris Accord. Most recently, Mayor Lori Lightfoot (MLL) reaffirmed the City's commitment to reaching 100% renewable energy in public buildings by 2025; further, MLL is committed to achieving 100% renewable energy city-wide by 2035.01/20/2022 02:27:05
