The City launched "Santa Monica Shines" - a health and cleanliness certification for businesses to drive consumer confidence that businesses were practicing safe hygiene and could remain open.The City and community partners continue to provide free food for families in need. There are opportunities for those in need to get free food 7 days a week. 10,000 lbs. of food grown was grown in community gardens and served 120 families.The Office of Sustainability & the Environment partnered with the Community & Cultural Services Division to organize a workforce development speaker series called, "Calling All Trades: Jobs for a Green Economy" to inspire job-seekers to pursue careers in the trades. The Office of Sustainability & the Environment launched a pilot rebate program called "Electrify Santa Monica" to incentivize residents to switch out gas-burning appliances for efficient electric alternatives. There are increased rebate amounts available for low-income residents. The City's Planning and Building & Safety Divisions transitioned plan check services online to enable construction and renovation projects to proceed. The Big Blue Bus had 287 fare-free days to support public transportation. 64% of BBB’s frequent riders (those who ride 4 or more days per week) are essential workers.The City installed protected bike lanes, as well as a two-way cycle track on Ocean Avenue in November, creating a safe connection to the recently widened and improved beach bike path.18 additional miles of protected bike lanes approved for construction over the next three years through an update to the Bike Action Plan. Historic Belmar Park was completed and opened in 2021.
