Children can follow the cycle from “seed to fruit” and prepare meals with their products. This takes place in two Educational Organic Gardens. More than 100.000 children have been enrolled. The expected result is to increase knowledge about food production, healthy diets and the relationship about regenerative food production and the environment and biodiversity. Created the Solidarity Restaurants Network, feeding the people in need and enabling donations of food products from distribution and catering sector. At the same time reducing food waste: the products are controlled by-products that come from small and large distribution and catering sector companies. Settled the Municipal Plan to Promote Health, which intends to improve the citizens' health and well-being. It includes healthy and sustainable consumption promotion. It works with social institutions, citizens and students.Created the “Roadmap for a Circular Porto in 2030”. Priorities: promote regenerative and regional production to supply the city; promote healthy food through information and training programs, influencing healthy food design, supporting food markets and redefining public procurement; make the most out of food and avoiding waste, valuing organic waste, closing the nutrient cycle and regenerating soils. If 50% of actual food waste is prevented and if all organic waste is transformed into quality organic fertiliser, it is estimated a reduction of 67.500 ton/year of CO2, saving of 21,4 million m3 of freshwater, and economic savings of €10,9 million due preventing food becoming waste, €8,4 million due avoiding soil degradation and of €24,2 million in health.01/20/2022 02:27:05
