Food12.4How does your city increase access to sustainable foods?2Please provide details and/or links to more information about the actions your city is taking to increase access to sustainable foods1Do you subsidise fresh fruits and vegetables?Access to sustainable foods is enabled and supported by different campaigns. For example, The Baltic Sea Day celebrates the Baltic Sea-friendly meals, thus, bringing Baltic herring, bream, perch and in-season vegetables to citizens’ tables. On the Baltic Sea Day, 75 000 citizens will enjoy the Baltic Sea-friendly meal provided by Service Centre Helsinki in 500 locations. Annually the consumption of the sustainable Baltic Sea fish in Service Centre Helsinki’s catering, however, reaches the level of magnificent 60 000 kilos in total. Another example of the campaigns is the Finnish Food Day, which celebrates locally produced ingredients. Currently roughly 80 % of Service Centre Helsinki’s food is locally sourced, while the remaining 20% come mainly from the other EU countries. In addition, Service Centre participates national Food Waste Campaign annually. During the campaign week, students are encouraged to consider the amount of food waste and awareness is raised in general. Also, students will measure the amount of forming food waste every day and keep track of it through the week.Organic and local food week campaign is organized annually as well, during which local and organic food is served in every school. A big focus is also on communication and awareness. Vegetarian food is served as an option every single day at schools. The menu changes every six weeks and during the six-week period there are 8 days when only vegetarian options are served for everybody.01/20/2022 02:27:05
