| 124951 | Cities 2021 | 2021 | 32480 | City of Adelaide | Australia | Southeast Asia and Oceania | 0. Introduction | 0.1 | Please give a general description and introduction to your city including your city’s reporting boundary in the table below. | 2 | Description of city | 1 | Please complete | The City of Adelaide includes the suburbs of Adelaide and North Adelaide in the state of South Australia. Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and is a mixed-use area, with residential, commercial, institutional, medical, educational, cultural and entertainment land uses, and substantial Park Lands. The City encompasses a total land area of about 16 square kilometres. The climate of Adelaide is temperate due to its coastal location. It has mild wet winters and hot dry summers. Adelaide was voted as the third most liveable city in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Liveability Index for 2021. The residential population of the City of Adelaide is estimated to be 31,280 in 2021 and has a higher proportion of households in the medium to high income category compared to South Australia. A significant number of workers travel into the City of Adelaide to work. On an average weekday pre-COVID, the population grows to 321,578 as people travel to the city to work, study or shop. In the last decade, population growth in South Australia has been driven by overseas migration and this is set to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. City households will continue to be dominated by lone person households, with an ongoing low proportion of families with children. The future urban form of Greater Adelaide will be more compact with much of the envisaged new housing and jobs located in existing urban areas on transport corridors. The City of Adelaide generates 18.22% of South Australia’s Gross State Product. In 2020, the City’s largest industries in terms of proportional value to the economy were Finance & Insurance Services (20.8%), Public Administration and Safety (12.8%), Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (11.6%), Health Care and Social Assistance (10.8%).In early 2017 ‘Adelaide City Council’ was re-branded as the ‘City of Adelaide’ or 'CoA'. Both names are used throughout this submission and refer to the same entity. | 01/20/2022 02:27:05 | |||

Please provide details on the boundary of your assessment, and where this differs from your city’s boundary, please provide an explanation. | 9 | Please explain | 1 | The impact of hurricane Sandy58 revealed a region-wide exposure to multiple hazards and risks. Power blackouts, severely contaminated storm waters, evacuation of residential communities and massive disruptions to public transport are just a few examples of the systemic nature of risk. Layering maps of those urban systems enables us to determine where an intervention could address the largest portfolio of risks and hazards. A citywide analysis has been conducted, layering a maximum spectrum of risks and vulnerabilities, combining flood risk with pollution risks, social vulnerability, critical infrastructure vulnerability and economic development vulnerability. This study was developed as an analytical process to identify the areas in the city that are at greatest risk, and by that aim to guidethis Plan’s priority investments in adaptation measures. The underlying argument is that a dollar is best spent when it addresses the widest variety of risks (including but also beyond flood risk) to the largest plurality of stakeholders (starting with vulnerable populations and economies). | 01/20/2022 02:27:05 | |||
| 124981 | Cities 2021 | 2021 | 59151 | Akureyrarbær | Iceland | Europe | 1. Governance and Data Management | Governance | 1.7 | Please provide information specifically on the impact of the COVID-19 economic response on climate action in your city and synergies between COVID-19 recovery interventions and climate action. | 3 | Explanation | 1 | Response | COVID-19 did not lead to any major changes in the city's budget. Lower tax revenues and increased costs of some services were met by increasing depts, rather than budget cuts. Thus, COVID-19 did not have any significant impact on the financing of climate action. No specific recovery plan was made. Actors that suffered from lower income got support from the national government. In general, things are mostly back to "normal" (mid-2021). | 01/20/2022 02:27:05 | ||

Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and some regional councils.
When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
