Adaptation | Adaptation Goals | 3.3 | Please describe the main goals of your city’s adaptation efforts and the metrics / KPIs for each goal. | 7 | Comment | 3 | Changes in ecosystems were identified as another significant risk representing a threat to the City of Turku. This risk was estimated to cause potentially very severe effects but predicting them is extremely challenging. However, changes have already occurred and they are likely to occur also in the future, even very rapidly. In terms of halting the decrease in biodiversity, maintaining blue and green areas and ecological corridors and increasing their number where possible is crucial. Urban green spaces as well as green areas (such as green roofs and other plantings) are crucial for biodiversity. For instance, pollinators and other insects may depend on them. In addition to securing biodiversity, urban blue and green areas offer a wide range of ecosystem services, absorb pollution, cool and even out temperatures in the city and in city buildings and offer a partial solution to the absorption problem of rain and runoff waters. In terms of biodiversity and its maintenance, ecological corridors are also significant. When planning infill construction, it is important that corridors remain uninterrupted and that they will not become too narrow. | 01/20/2022 02:27:05

Please also select the most relevant assets or services that are affected by the climate hazard and provide a description of the impact. | 12 | Please describe the impacts experienced so far, and how you expect the hazard to impact in the future | 4 | Large areas of Metropolitan Lima are at risk from the eventual rise in sea level due to Climate Change. In the coming decades, if the climate crisis is not slowed or mitigated, the coasts of the districts of Callao, Ancón, Barranco, Chorrillos, Lurín, Chilca, etc. they will be flooded at least once a year. The district of San Isidro registers a coastal strip of 0.8 km represented by cliffs. These, according to the latest reports, would have retreated about 15 meters (Alonso, 2020). Although the district is also at risk from the eventual increase in sea level due to the melting of the glaciers, it presents a natural barrier, the cliffs, which would avoid the negative effects of said increase. However, the retreat of the cliffs due to this increase in the sea would affect the houses located along the coastal strip.Regarding coastal erosion, the phenomenon of erosion is rare on the slopes that surround Metropolitan Lima. However, erosion can be observed on the cliffs of the Costa Verde.Three types of erosion have been identified on the Coast: slope erosion, river erosion and marine erosion; The first of them being a phenomenon that occurs in San Isidro due to the passage of sea waters on the slopes and can precede other processes such as landslides. On the other hand, the erosion of slopes is associated with materials prone to disaggregation such as weathered, altered and highly fractured rocks or loose rock fragments devoid of vegetation. It is necessary to specify that, in the Costa Verde sector of the San Isidro district, the best examples of caving are produced, which are generated in the cliffs. This process has already affected some buildings built in the upper part (INGEMET, 2015).In addition, at the level of territorial planning instruments, the San Isidro District Urban Plan 2012-2022 does not specify the use of the cliff area to carry out constructions. | 01/20/2022 02:27:05

This data is collected through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System. When using this data, please cite both organisations using the following wording: ‘This data was collected in partnership by CDP and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability’.
This dataset contains a subset of the related full cities dataset, covering Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Action questions for publicly disclosing cities in 2021. The platform is still open and the dataset is updated daily to reflect new submissions.
To view the cities 2021 questionnaire guidance, including all questions asked to cities in 2021, visit https://www.cdp.net/en/guidance/guidance-for-cities.

Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and some regional councils.
When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
