The Phichit Municipality is now serving as a learning center for environment management at national and international levels by years of sharing knowledge and lessons learned about environmental issues. For example, Chiang Mai University established an environmental database to assess the city’s capacity in terms of environmental management. The database used as key to transforming into a sustainable city reflects that the city has incorporated a modern mindset. An integrated waste management, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, is being developed through cooperation with the Thai-German Climate Programme. This cooperation also creates an opportunity for development of government personnel and human resources.01/20/2022 02:27:05

Governance and Data ManagementGovernance1.0Please detail sustainability goals and targets (e.g. GHG reductions) that are incorporated into your city’s master plan and describe how these are addressed in the table below.2Description2The objective of Adaptation Measures is to anticipate the possible effects of climate change. Jesus Maria seeks to reduce vulnerabilities to climate hazards that are inevitable such as Heat Waves and Droughts. Climate models at both the global and local levels foresee a gradual increase in temperatures, high variability in precipitation due to Andean glaciers' melting, and a higher frequency of climatic phenomena for which we are not prepared with the current model of making a city. A commitment to address climate change requires a comprehensive vision of the problem and implementing resilience strategies. Adaptation actions are based on three pillars:- Water Responsibility: Efficient use of water (S-AV-1), Wastewater Treatment for irrigation of green areas and trees (S-AV-3), Planting of tree species and resistant plants (S-AV-4), Water Storage Reservoirs (S-AV-6).- Conservation of the green regions: Creation of green spaces (O-DU-1), Sustainable Criteria in Building Licenses (O-DU-3), irrigation schedule, and maintenance (O -AV-1). - The commitment of the population: Communication on climate hazards to the community (OSC-1).The Adaptation Measures pillars respond to a need to work in a transversal way to have real and tangible solutions. The Adaptation Measures have been conceived as a dynamic and flexible tool that will achieve in a short, medium, and long term to improve citizens' habitability conditions in a gradual way. The 8 Adaptation Measures promote actions seeking to generate savings in the future by anticipating possible damages associated with non-adaptation, preparing the city to make it more resistant, optimizing municipal processes, creating new opportunities and being aligned with governments at the global level and reducing the gaps between local government and citizens. Finally, Adaptation measures also seek to reduce other impacts derived from climate change, such as deterioration in air quality, loss of biodiversity, and the generation of urban heat islands. As regards the Municipality of Jesús María, it is still in the process of preparing the Greenhouse Gas Inventory (GHG), so it is not yet possible to establish or quantify reduction parameters in each of the Actions that are part of the Plan.01/20/2022 02:27:05
