Opportunities | Collaboration | 6.2a | Please provide some key examples of how your city collaborates with business and/or industries in the table below. | 3 | Description of collaboration | 6 | Carbon Neutral Kitchen is a project started two years ago, led by Nottingham Good Food Partnership, and delivered in partnership with Nottingham City Council and D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership. The aim was to provide a free support package and quarterly events for the city’s thriving indie food scene, which generates around £9m for the local economy. However, it is also a major contributor to emissions arising from food waste and is an intensive energy user. The project offered a package of support to local independent businesses with the intention of setting up sustainable practices while potentially making considerable financial savings. This package spanned across many areas of sustainability. While in its infancy, a number of ideas were developed, such as shortening supply chains and reducing packaging waste by connecting restaurants with local growers and/or growing onsite; switching to 100% renewable energy suppliers, potentially offering a discounted rate; signposting to green/efficiency grants; installing worm bins to reduce waste disposal costs, and developing ‘carbon neutral’ menu items. At the first event in September 2019, 20 businesses signed up to access free grants. | 01/20/2022 02:27:05 | |||
