OpportunitiesOpportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity13The delivery of the 5YEP is based on a Mission Based Approach which brings together a broad spectrum of organisations and representative groups who have a material interest in achieving the plans goals. It recognises that to achieve the ambitious targets set out in the 5YEP a cross sectoral approach is needed. GM first city region to take this approach and is working with UCL-IIPP on the implementation. Five Challenge Groups have been set up with between 30-50 members from a range of organisations including businesses, energy companies, housing providers, third sector, academics, technology providers, consultants and activists from across GM. These groups include:Communications and Behaviour Change Energy InnovationLow Carbon BuildingsNatural EnvironmentSustainable Consumption and Production Under each of these challenge groups several smaller 'task and finish groups' operate. The groups focus on a delivery of a particular project, strategy or piece of research and support delivery of a number of the projects highlighted throughout our CDP submission. A few recent notable additions to the mission based approach structure are: Retrofit Task Force - Chaired by Greater Manchester Mayor with over 30 representatives, both local and national, coming together every month to support the move to affordable renewable domestic heating, the largest single source of carbon emission in the Region. Heat Pump Accelerator - this brings together HP manufactures, procurement bodies, social landlords, planners and environmental health officers, academics and the Distribution Network Operator to identify and overcome the challenges of mass deployment of this technology.01/20/2022 02:27:05
