Adaptation | Adaptation Planning Process | 3.5 | Please explain how your city has addressed vulnerable groups through transformative action. | 0 | 0 | The city of Berlin provides funding specifically targeted at socially deprived districts and measures their impact: the BENE Program, co-funded by the ERDF, pillars 6 "improving the environment and nature in socially deprived neighborhoods" is targeted at these vulnerable groups and measures how much area has been transformed or improved (indicator pillar 6). The funding structure includes a wide range of climate adaptation measures such as renovating and creating green areas, creating of green transit ways, innovative water management, creating of pocket parks, plant care, green roofs, facades and urban gardening. They have developed a method that can measure the various degrees of environmental justice throughout the city using five key indicators. The environmental justice map of Berlin shows the geographical concentration of the noise load, air pollution, the availability of green spaces, the bio-climate and puts these environmental factors in the context of a social status index. Thus, the map shows exactly where people that have a low social status also have to suffer from higher environmental disadvantages. What started as a pilot project, will now be turned into a proper monitoring scheme. An updated environmental justice map is expected by the end of 2020. | 01/20/2022 02:27:05 | ||||
