Please provide details on the boundary of your plan, and where this differs from your city’s boundary, please provide an explanation.11Describe the synergies, trade-offs, and co-benefits of this interaction1The plan considers the desire to live in or near the foothills environment or along watercourses while ensuring community members and their property are safe and not at risk from bushfire and flooding. The plan recommends that biodiversity plans balance biodiversity values with protecting built assets considering increasing bushfire risk. The timeframe of 2050 was selected to incorporate a timeframe that reflected longer term decisions (e.g. asset delivery lifecycle considerations) and a timeframe that is not beyond reasonable and realistic timeframes to strategic planning for the Region’s organisations. Green infrastructure is the strategically planned network of green spacesand environmental or water management features that deliver a wide range of environmental, economic and social benefits including provision of clean water and clean air, more attractive and greener cooler cities, mitigation of urban heat island effects and improved wildlife habitat and biodiversity. Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) is an approach to urban planning and design that integrates the management of the total water cycle into the land use and development process. It includes consideration of available water sources including rainwater and stormwater, improving water quality and managing runoff to improve biodiversity and the liveability of urban environments. Resilient East has developed a 2020-2025 Action Plan which can feed into individual council action plans and considers socioeconomic and health factors and members of the community who are already vulnerable due to poor mental or physical health, are isolated by a lack of mobility or transport options and/or are highly dependent on particular facilities or support services will be more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, particularly during extreme events. The immediate focus for adaptation needs to be on educating and raising awareness of the risks of extreme heat and bushfire.01/20/2022 02:27:05

The document lays out a total of 24 goals, several of which deal with climate adaptation. Goal 14 aims to "Enhance Stormwater Management to Reduce Sewer Overflows and Basement Flooding". Key actions under this goal include: 1. A comprehensive green infrastructure plan that is embedded in the capital budgeting process.2. Explore partnerships with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District to implement neighborhood-level green infrastructure pilots focused on reducing basement flooding.3. Convert 1.5 million square feet of impermeable surface into pervious surfaces every year4. Replace or reline 275 miles of sewer main and line 56,000 structures (to achieve a total replacement or relining of 700 miles of sewer main, and total relining of 160,000 catch basins within the next decade)5. Support the completion of the first stage of the Tunnel and Reservoir Plan6. Increase opportunities to return rainwater to Lake MichiganGoal 24 states “Protect the City and Its Residents by Preparing for Changes In the Climate”. Under this goal, key actions that Chicago is taking include: 1. Preparing for the human impacts of climate change by supporting people with information and services, such as cooling centers.2. Preparing the natural environment for climate impacts and maintain biodiversity3. Prepare the infrastructure for climate change by reducing the urban heat island effect, managing flooding from high intensity storm events, and strengthening resiliency to extreme weatherIn addition, the City is also planning to pilot a new sensing ecosystem on stormwater management through the Smart Green Infrastructure Monitoring project with City Digital, a UI Labs Collaboration (https://www.chicago.gov/content/dam/city/progs/env/Sustainable_Chicago_2012-2015_Highlights.pdf)The 100 Resilient Cities "Resilient Chicago" plan from 2019 also details flood mitigation and adaptation strategies. Action 19: Conduct a Citywide downspout disconnection campaign to decrease flooding.Action 20: Implement and expand "Space to Grow" healthy schools program, including the use of school greenspace as green infrastructure. Action 22: Develop a stormwater credit trading program. As of now, the pilot StormStore program has been launched and will run through 2024.Action 23: Create a green stormwater infrastructure strategy. A comprehensive green infrastructure strategy will be launched in 2022.Action 41: Foster community preparedness for stormwater events.01/20/2022 02:27:05
