Fredericton has a large number of ash trees both on public and private property. The City Parks and Trees division are responsible for treating or removing affected ash trees on City-owned property. Resources spent on treatment or removal of affected trees impact the division's ability to direct resouces to other projects. Warmer temperatures and an extended growing season are expected to increase the spread of invasive insects and plants leading to competition with (and potentially the loss of) native species. If additional invasive tree pests arrive in the future, it could cause a significant economic burden and cause serious damage to our City parks. If not removed, damaged or sick trees could cause a public safety hazard or fall on power lines causing outages or fire. | 01/20/2022 02:27:05 | |||
