Por meio do Decreto-Lei 4 505, de 30 de dezembro de 1943, foi instituído o nome "Abaetetuba".A cidade é uma surpresa agradável para aqueles que visitam pela primeira vez, simples eu seu traçado urbano, é uma típica cidade da Amazônia. Abaetetuba cresceu às margens do Rio Maratauíra (ou Meruú), que é um afluente do rio Tocantins. Seu povo é alegre, hospitaleiro e, acima de tudo apaixonada por sua terra. Abaetetuba é uma cidade que guarda tantas peculiaridades que a soma destes acaba gerando uma paixão pela terra natal, com tons de bairrismo. Seus poemas sobre "a terra maratuia " são verdadeiras declarações de amor.A cidade tem um Patrimônio histórico, paisagísticos e culturais digno de ser visitado e admirado. Exemplos disso são as belas igrejas, algumas muito antigas como a Igreja de São Miguel Arcanjo, na centenária Vila de Beja e a Catedral de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, sede da Diocese de Abaetetuba, e outros mais moderno como a de Nossa Sra. de Nazaré e o Santuário de Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro, uma das maiores do estado.No passado, o município ficou conhecido como a Terra da Cachaça, devido a próspera indústria de aguardente de cana localizado na época em Abaetetuba. Os Engenhos, no início do Século XX eram contados às dezenas, porém hoje só existe as ruínas e apenas uma pequena unidade fabril, o Engenho Pacheco, que produz perto de 1.000 litros por mês de uma excelente cachaça que é usufruída por um pequeno número de privilegiados dentro do próprio município. Esse símbolo local foi imortalizado nos versos de Ruy Barata ao cantar "só lembrar da mardita me lembrei de Abaeté".Cidade-polo de uma região que abrange os municípios de Moju, Igarapé-Miri e Barcarena (somando uma população de mais de 350 000 habitantes), Abaetetuba é a sétima mais populosa cidade do estado. A cidade proporciona fácil acesso aos portos de Belém e de Vila do Conde e ao sul do Pará, além de ser próxima ao Polo Industrial na Vila dos Cabanos, que se localiza a 30 km. Diversas empresas estão se instalando no município aproveitando a grande rede de serviços da cidade, fato refletido no produto interno bruto municipal, que triplicou em quatro anos.A atividade econômica predominante no município é o setor terciário (comércio e serviços), que conta com uma ampla rede de estabelecimentos das mais diversas atividades.Para aqueles que amam o verão e o sol, a cidade de Abaetetuba apresenta algumas oportunidades de férias encantadoras, como a praia de Beja - Berço da colonização de Abaetetuba.Abaetetuba consolida-se como detentora de um dos maiores e mais animados carnavais do estado; e no mês de Junho a grande atração fica por conta do Concurso de Quadrilhas Tradicionais e Modernas, o maior e mais belo evento dessa categoria no estado.Abaetetuba é conhecida como a Capital Mundial do Brinquedo de Miriti. Em 2004, o Governo Municipal apoiou a criação do Festival de Miriti (MIRITIFEST). O evento destaca o Artesanato de Miriti e apresenta obras de grande nível artístico criado e apresentado por muitos artesãos locais, além da exposição de produtos e serviços de empresas locais e de outros municípios.Em Abaeté as festas da Tiração de Reis eram tradicionais e eram realizadas tanto na cidade como pelo interior do município. Envolviam, muita musicalidade e atualmente as músicas saíram um pouco da tradição religiosa do fato, incorporando outras músicas populares alegres, como o carimbó, frevos, sambas, forrós e outras. This data is collected through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System. When using this data, please cite both organisations using the following wording: ‘This data was collected in partnership by CDP and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability’.
This dataset contains a subset of the related full cities dataset, covering Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Action questions for publicly disclosing cities in 2021. The platform is still open and the dataset is updated daily to reflect new submissions.
