It is about 685 km away from Vientiane Capital. Pakse serves as a transport and commerce hub of the southern provinces in Laos. It has a land area of 125.08 km2. In 2018, Pakse City had 14,722 households with a population of 88,332 people (Urban Development Administration Authorities or UDAA, 2020).In Pakse City, the amount of municipal waste generated per day is estimated to be 92 tons, of which 53 tons (58%) are collected and disposed of in landfills. It is further reported that organic waste (food waste and garden waste) constitutes 55% of household waste, 72% of waste from restaurants and hotels, and 60% of waste from markets (UDAA, 2020). Uncollected solid waste is disposed of improperly by households along drainages, canals, or along natural streams. Some households burn their waste in their backyards. Improperly managed city solid waste is continually causing problems to the city such as increasing GHG emissions, water bodies contamination, and prevalence of waste-induced diseases. Municipal solid waste in Pakse City is now mostly being collected by the Office of Public Service and Management, Pakse city has replaced the Champa Cleaning Company, a waste collection company that was awarded the contract to provide waste collection services in the city for 15 years. Additionally, some businesses also collect and transport their own solid waste from markets and shops to landfill for disposal. Currently, the collected waste is mixed, unsegregated, and directly disposed of in the landfill.Locals in the city are not aware of the value of some recyclable wastes nor do they know the impacts of improperly managed waste on the environment, society, and health. People have very limited knowledge on how to turn waste into resources and energy. Thus, establishing a project on waste to resource and energy will bring opportunities to the city, and of course, to the people.Accordingly, the City Office of Pakse is developing a Green City Action Plan to make the city a liveable city. Therefore, the project on Waste to Resource and Energy in Pakse City Project is being planned.Project objectives:- To set up waste-to-resource and energy roadmap and action plan;- To build a waste recovery facility and a biogas-electricity plant;- To raise awareness on solid waste management and bring benefits to local people via waste to resource schemes. | CCFLA_TAP_Application questions Pakse City.pdf, CCFLA_TAP_Application questions_2020_Pakse_Revised_17Sept21.docx (1) (1).pdf | 01/20/2022 02:27:05 | ||

Description
This data is collected through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System. When using this data, please cite both organisations using the following wording: ‘This data was collected in partnership by CDP and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability’.
This dataset contains a subset of the related full cities dataset, covering Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Action questions for publicly disclosing cities in 2021. The platform is still open and the dataset is updated daily to reflect new submissions.
To view the cities 2021 questionnaire guidance, including all questions asked to cities in 2021, visit https://www.cdp.net/en/guidance/guidance-for-cities.
For any questions, including guidance on how to reference this data in your own work, please contact cities@cdp.net.
Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and some regional councils.
When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
