It is a city planned as part of Seoul's population and industry dispersion policy. It is located in the southwest of Seoul in a 30km radius and faces the west coast, and the topography is inland and there is a gentle slope. As Korea's representative industrial city, it has led the development of Korea for the past 40 years, and is Korea's best multicultural model city where 80,869 foreigners from 100 countries can enjoy a unique and interesting culture and festival. Ansan City has the world's largest clean energy production base, Sihwaho Tidal Power Plant, and is promoting various energy policies to increase the proportion of new and renewable energy. In 2008, it established Korea's first'Environmental Foundation' among local governments and is engaged in various activities to become a'sustainable city Ansan'. In addition, it is growing into an eco-friendly city by forming a network of residents and social groups for various environmental issues. In 2019, the "Environmental Education Ordinance" was enacted in order to revitalize the education of citizens about the environment such as climate change, and the "Environmental Education City Declaration Ceremony" is also held and active.
