AdaptationAdaptation Planning3.2aPlease provide more information on your plan that addresses climate change adaptation and/or resilience and attach the document. Please provide details on the boundary of your plan, and where this differs from your city’s boundary, please provide an explanation.13Description of the stakeholder engagement processes1The development of the Plan was divided into two separate phases: (1) two targeted workshops aimed at representatives from the sectors found to be the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change during the development of the Nacala Risk and Vulnerability Assessment; and (2) bi-lateral meetings with key stakeholders within Nacala to verify/ build upon information developed in the workshops.ICLEI hosted a 2 day workshop in March and a second one in May 2019. The aim was to facilitate discussion and multi-stakeholder interactions to build upon the work undertaken during the development of the Nacala Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (NR&VA) and support the co-development of the content of the Plan. Their were specifically targeted at representatives from the key sectors highlighted in the NR&VA as being the most vulnerable to climate hazards (water supply and sanitation sector; public health sector; food and agriculture sector; and environment, biodiversity and forestry sector). Stakeholders included representatives from ICLEI as well as representatives from multiple departments from within Nacala Municipality (including planning, public health, water and sanitation, education, environmental management, finance, information and communication, agriculture and several ward Councillors), as well as representatives from the private sector and local NGOs. The workshops were collectively used as a platform to co-develop an overarching adaptation goal as well as priority sector goals; develop realistic actions for each of the priority sectors to reduce each sectors’ vulnerability to the impacts of climate hazards affecting them; discuss the various synergies, trade-offs and co-benefits associated with each of the identified actions; prioritise actions that have the greatest potential to improve Nacala’s resilience to the impacts of climate change whilst at the same time support Nacala’s developmental aspirations; and lastly to consider the aspects required to develop the priority actions into implementable projects. ICLEI held bi-lateral meetings with representatives from the Nacala Municipality Planning and Information and Communication department as well as with local NGOs based in Nacala to build upon the information obtained during the workshop and additional contextual information pertaining to the adaptation actions proposed for inclusion in the Plan.01/20/2022 02:27:05
