OpportunitiesOpportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity3The Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) has introduced QR code-enabled door-to-door garbage collection system to overcome the challenges such as sanitation. The initiative will be taken up on a pilot basis and initially ten thousand households and buildings including the Public and Community toilets are covered. After successful implementation of the pilot project all the households and buildings in the wards will be covered. Door to Door waste is collected through 53 nos. of electric vehicles (BOVs) and all the vehicles, including auto-tippers, BOVs are equipped with GPS to track their movement and evaluate the coverage of door-to-door garbage collection system. The waste is processed through Micro Composting Centers (MCCs) and Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). Each MCC has the processing capacity of up to five tonnes per day. Currently, eight nos. of MCCs and Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) are functional. These facilities convert wet or bio-degradable waste into compost and greatly help in addressing waste management issues in the capital city. The RMC is working with the 109 nos. of Swachha Sathis from various women self-help groups (SHGs), 27 nos. of Swachha Supervisors and several NGOs and civil society organization of the city for sensitizing the citizen to segregate the household waste into dry and wet.01/20/2022 02:27:05
